XLRI HRM GD PI experience MBA admission 2012-14

XLRI HRM GD and PI experiences 2012-2014
==============================================UDDALAK BANERJEE

XLRI needs no introduction . IT was my best call for the season mba 2012-14. The Best part of XLRi was they called in BM as per time slots of interview . The slots were of 20 minutes each and candidates were called exactly on time . That is if someones slot as per allotment came at 1:30 then he was called at 30 minutes before that slot. Hence the process looked a lot well trimmed and quite truely like a All India top 5 college and Asia’s best HR school. My batch in HRM was at 1:30 pm and I went a bit early just to stem the nerves. The process for HRM was to have a GD and followed by the PI  in the same order of the GD. I reached the college at 10:00 am sharp . GD process was continuing at that time for the previous batch.People mostly were tense some said that they were asked about hobby, some said they were asked about acads so the reaction was mixed. Most aspirants were very nervous. From the first batch almost all had IIM A B C calls and had a very good xat percentile too. They were saying that BM interview did not go well and that HR in XLRI is Asia s best and they ask strange questions and that PI here had maximum weightage.

IT was hard to wait till 1:30 pm but then somehow time flew by. Soon my time came and we all assembled in the room for GD . i was last in the GD panel and was really feeling apprehensive that i would miss the afternoon train janshatabdi if they took 20 minutes each with all the rest 9 candidates.

The topic was  “RTI act and its uses”

Well the topic was a general one and everyone was willing to say. The group soon started to discuss hard on the topic it was increasingly becoming tough to make an entry. But then after 1 minute i realised time was going out and that i have to make an entry. I started on a loud note saying,” RTI act was first enacted in 2005 and it reflected the merit of arvind kejriwal an iit kgp graduate who struggled hard to bring around the government to enact one of the biggest weapons of the civil society.RTI act implementation was best noted now in case of  Higher secondary paper checking when students previously used to lose their papers due to some negligence on the part of authorities. But statistically speaking if one looks at the cases solved under RTI , we will see that RTI cases have been filed with 60% cases in urban belt and 40% in rural belt. Out of these cases that were filed about 55% cases in urban origin got results and 45% of the rural cases got results. This shows that awareness of RTI is still not present in the indian civil society.”Well it was purely lucky perhaps to get the topic as i was member of RTI community for long and hence statistics was there to my rescue. I made couple of more entry to the GD but subsequent entries were easier because the group has bought it and none of the other candidates had the statistics and were grilling on mundane general points. That stacked the issue entirely in my favour.

Now I was expected that like BM too they would give 20 minutes to each candidate to prove his worth given that the candidates were all good and each of them had multiple iim calls and had a very heavy XAT percentile too. But even then the first few candidates just came and went because perhaps they did not have the orientation for the hr. The very first question that was asked to most was Why HR? and if the answer was not satisfactory they were eliminating them.

When my turn came i was apparently tensed and was thinking hard on what to do.

My chance came in soon. I was almost frozen in tension. I knew it was the biggest interview for the season and my best interview call by far. I knew i had to make it . I knew that this is Asia s best Business school for HR and it wont be easy at all. I was extremely nervy this time. I never felt so much tension as the clock kept ticking . I was praying to God that what ever happens please please make me through. I will never forget your bunificience all my life.

The first few question just came and went i was completely in a dream in a supreme state of euphoria.

Three Interviewers were present in the panel.

Interviewer 1,” You are uddalak Banerjee..what is the meaning of your name ..it is kind of uncommon”
I said,” it comes from rising light and that it was a samas of urdha( up  going )+ alok(light).

Interviewer 1,” you are a blog writer and activist so tell me indias top 3 intricate social issues as evident in current census”
I said,” Female foeticide leading to sex ratio imbalance , high mortality rate at child birth of mothers, low neutrient availability for a majority of the population which is still in the Below Poverty line level calculated as per Suresh Tendulkar s report on BPL”

Interviewer 2,” What are your hobbies?”
I said,” writing instant poems and shortstories. ”

Interviewer 3,” have you got any international publication?”
I said,” yes it was published in international publication of bewildering stories which is US based. I  have also got publications in voicesnet.org which is an international forum for poetry writters along with writerslounge .I have got my biography printed in both these sites and have been one of the youngest to do so.”

Interviewer 2,”any other exam that you had taken?how were your other results?”
I said,” yes CAT which i had 99.12, Nmat 99.98 , MAT 99.56, Gmat score of 700,Ibsat rank 1 , Cmat results are awaited .I have also qualified in Snap for Scmhrd and sibm”

Interviewer 3,” You are from National Institute of Technology Raipur. How do you think that places you on a different keel from others from NITs and IIT s. There are quite a few aspirants from these prestigious institutes.”

I said,” Sir it was a pleasure for me to secure 99.4 percentile in AIEEE and get admitted to NIT brand and since have enjoyed string of benefits of NIT brand in placements both oncampus and offcampus. As such Brand wise IIT and NIT are comparable But then IIT is always a step ahead .But like all other people from NIT s I too strive hard for excellence. I have had an extensive view of corporate in Birlasoft mnc which deals mainly with consultancy and software services. So i hope that the software usage part of an hr while dealing with attendence regularisation and checking and then employee module creation using microsoft excel can be readily handled by me . Besides ERP based packages are always used in HR and i will have a better hang of things there too.”

Interviewer 2,” what are the key responsibilities of hr?”
I said,”I think it is mainly to maintain employee satisfaction and organisational satisfaction of the employees. IT involves hiring candidates and also firing them if they dont work or any discipline issue happens, maintaining their attendence, boosting their morale through awards and recognition.”

Interviewer 3,” tell me one thing hr has to deal most in IT company from your experience?”
I said,” it is salary. All It companies employees only want a salary hike. If they get higher salary they want nothing else. Hence retension becomes difficult  specially of talented people who get many calls.”

Interviewer 2,” what you as hr could have done to your company ?”
I said,” i would changed shift duration .it was really difficult to handle and as a new entrant u have mostly nightshifts which are arduous . I always felt that the shift should be changed and more offshore support should be provided from 2 pm onwards. Because after 2 pm it becomes physically high demanding from an employee.I would have also laid down a fix and transperant onsite plan that if one guy handles these many cases in this month of given criticality he would be given 10 marks each for months calculated from this date. And final score monthwise would be put up for all to see. The one to score maximum will be given onsite “

Interviewer 1,” what will u do if selected ?”
I said,” raise the salary and benefits of the panel members (smile)”

Interviewer 2,” ha h ha ha ha”

Interviewer 3,” ha ha ha”

Interviewer 1,” but is not that improper ?”
I said,” Sir i would work hard as a student and try to contribute as much as possible to the college. But sir in the course there is one clause named employee motivation. You all are working day in day out to select so many students everyday i believe if selected even though it would be on my own capacity i believe this much should be done on behalf of all that get selected”

Interviewer 1, “ so you have iim calls too, nitie, mdi, fms also, so why xlri?”
I said,”Because as per most ranking systems xlri is at number 4 and iim k sits at around 8 and fms is at 6 ,mdi is around 10 . Rankings are calculated on the basis of infrastructure, faculty, placements. All though many rankings are available this is the trend in majority of rankings. And besides HR in XLRI is Asia s best even ahead of IIM A . While coming here i met a few Foreign students too from indonesia, europe and russia in the morning slot only. So there is no doubt that XLRI is my best call way way ahead of rest 6 iims.”

Interviewer2,” tell me one thing suppose you are an hr and there are many people working in your locality and you dont know how many.So how would u know that how many of these people in your locality are working?”

I said,” From the neighbouring banks i would get the number of salary accounts. From that i could get the approximate number of salaried people . Which would give me the approximate number of employed people”

Interviewer 3,”you are an engineer so you must be good in maths. Tell me what is the number of prime numbers between 8756 and 8967 .”

I said,” It would be somewhere in between 20 to 30. “

Interviewer 3,”tell me how to calculate it?”

I said,” it would be easy through computer program. We can generate the series. It would save time rather than calculating manually. If we do manually there is no formula as such it has only got a 6x+ and -1 form. But then for higher number the number of prime numbers become lesser because number of factors grow higher. So based on pattern of first hundred and that the gap is of 200 at a later stage of number system it would be around 20 to 30.”

Interviewer 2,”one last question. You are a social activist and a poet and an active person . Tell us  a poem in 4 lines and tell us ur activism”

I said,” In months nine i have awards five,
editorials in papers prove  me alive,
From times of india to hindustan times,
i am one who wins and never dies.”

Interviewer 3,” bravo..!”

Interviewer 2,” it was great talking to you.”

RESULT: CONVERT and JOINING.

====================================================================

Finally XLRI it is... yuppie.............God finally i got to my destination .

XLRI becomes my new home for 2012-14.. News of Leading newspapers and news channels about XL .Got waitlisted initially in XLRI .FInally the waiting clears....And yes it is i am off to the college of my dreams.

GD PI experience of MBE and MFC of Delhi school of economics

GD PI experience of MBE and MFC of Delhi school of economics
==================================================UDDALAK BANERJEE

Delhi School of Economics is one such college which boasts of the least amount of fees which was nearly 24 k for entire 2 years and that provided placement of 7.6 lpa on an average. The ROI was really huge . Besides Delhi University is a brand in itself of which people die for .The GD and PI of  MBE and MFC programs were combined . At first we were seated in a big room where documents were verified and then we were distributed in groups. My group number was 2 and i had to wait for my chance to come. But it was not a long wait. Soon the group number 1 finished their gd and came back to the room and we were escorted to the GD room.

THe topic for the GD  was  “India needs more IITs than IIMs”. There were about 12 members in the gd group. I introduced the topic and spoke for about 70 seconds. I said,” IITs are the technical institutes which provide the fundamentals of working, construction and design of mechanical, electrical, computer science oriented subjects which are the ones that are used today . Even a Hr uses tools which are driven by computer science, incase of MIS we have the data manipulated and provided to us in a structured form through which the analyst draws conclusions. THe technical aspect of life needs to be known before the managerial aspects, for managerial aspects can come to you by prolonged experience after having worked 10 years in the industry usually people even without a management degree become potent enough to manage a team .Besides even statistically if we analyse the condition of india we will find that the number of people who appear in class xii board exam is far far far more than the number of people who appear for graduation which is mainly due to the high dropout rate.So both from the statistical and practical sense it makes perfect sense to have more IITs than IIMs. ”
The debate then continued round and round. Many people came up with points like IIMs have lesser seats as compared to IITs and the packages in IIM s are more than IITs so this proves that  we need more managers . Some came up with point that India is suffering from mismanagement of resources and would be immensely benefitted if they had more quality managers.I spoke once more towards the end, i said then that ,” It is not that the iims alone produce managers there are many other institutes who provide it. Even IITs provide the country with lots of managers and the cutoff too is as high as 99 percentile and given the infrastructure of iits they can also provide the country with more managers . So setting up the IITs would definately help the dual cause of creating more technicians and managers.”. The group accepted the point and hence i was asked to conclude too. I concluded that “ majority of the group believes that IITs are more important than IIMs at this juncture of growth of our country  where infra development is of paramount importance. Besides IITs themselves are providing the country with very elite managers who too are doing equally well as the IIMs.”

The interview questions of MFC and MBE were different. First came MFC.

MFC interview questions
In the MFC interview there were 2 interviewers.

interviewer1,”what is MFC?”

I said,” it is managing of financing for businesses.”

Interviewer2,” how does the stock market work?”

I said,” i dont know in details But as far as i know . Stock prices are dependent on many parameters public sentiment being one of them . If the public believes that the company on a given day is doing well then its prices go higher and if it feels that the company is doomed as was the case with satyam in the aftermath of the scam then the prices of shares crash .There are two stock exchanges NIFTY and BSE. These are just indicators of financial health of the country”

Interviewer 1,” NO but how does it work actually ?”

I said,” the buyer contacts the registered agent who fills the KYC and submits to the exchange. The registered agent then guides the buyer to buy certain number of shares of any company. Which again can be of various types it can be futures, contracts based on what time they would be withdrawn and their dependability on the market. There are bonds too which usually are considered safer.Everyday the buying and selling of shares take place and based on these transactions the market shows signs of growth or fall”

Interviewer 2,” your idea of shares are not that deep . You need to understand the entry points and cash policies more. What u gave us is more of an overview.”

Interviewer 1,” you have a cat score of 99.12 . what other calls do you have ?”
I said,” XLRI, 6 IIM s , MDI,XIMB ,Scmhrd  all IITs....”

Interviewer 2,”why MFC?”

I said,” it is an esteemed college and has a very high ROI and at this point i have only got calls it is not converts. So there is a gap between calls and converts.”

Interviewer1,” ok fine you may go now. You have MBE interview too? wait outside they would call you soon.”
I said,” ok sir”

MBE interview
This interview had 3 interviewers all were woman of middle age.

interviewer 1,” you believe in astronomy?”

I said,” why mam?”

Interviewer 2,”no your name seems similar to astronomers”

I said,” i would like to take it as a compliment but as such it is mythological name and deals with early part of mahabharata. “

Interviewer 3,” what are your hobbie?”
I said,” writing shortstories,poems “

Interviewer 2,”Dont you think poets are bad managers?”
i said,” No Mam i would beg to differ on that . On the contrary they are good managers. Because they play with words to create poems. So management of words is there as you have to search out the most apt word for the statements and also make it to rhyme. So management is there in every word and statement. Besides they provide satisfaction ,spikes interest and  provides relief . This again helps and acts as a addon for all managers.”

Interviewer 3,” you read news?”
i said,” yes”

Interviewer 1,”what was the euro crisis all about?”
I said,” it started from mis appropriation of national resources of greece at a time when the biggest economies of the world were shrinking due to large scale scams . The life style of greece played its part and so did Germanys emergence as the defacto player of euro.THe trade imbalance that was created due to superior goods of Germany occupying the common market of Euro country greece was inevitable as the lavish life style of people of greece and their inclination to spend  more and more and buy german articles pushed them towards a point of trade imbalance triggering the crisis. The financial system of the country got broken after a series of scams and bankruptcy of most of its leading banks.”

interviewer 1,” what is credit swap?”

I said,” it is taking credit by giving mortgage of property. This is something that led to fall of lehman brothers and started the recession of 2008-09. As the property held in mortgage turned out as bad loan as the housing prices dipped leading to large scale apprehensions and mistrust which led to fall of the stock markets across Europe and USA.”

Interviewer 2,” why was india not impacted?”

I said,” because india had a rigid system of giving loans. IT is based on documentation and is thoroughly regulated by RBI from time to time through various measures. Money in circulation is entirely regulated by the Central Bank.”

Interviewer 2,” how does rbi regulate the flow of money?”

I said,” thorough varying of interest rates of CRR, SLR,Bank Rate etc.”

Interviewer 3,” you are a computer science engineer from a National Institute of Technology.Your profile too is decent. Wont this be a separate field?”

I said,” Computer science applications are there for MBE too. Now a days everything is dependent on computers. Besides during my experience with Birlasoft i have learnt that in life one needs to be multidimensional to grow. MBE would provide me with the requisit diversity”

Interviewer2,” your cat percentile is 99.12 . you have given any other exam?”

I said,”yes Xat, snap,nmat,cmat , gmat .”

Interviewer 1,” how did u do in them?”

I said,” gmat i got 700 out of 800 which makes me qualified for seeking admission to all IIMs , in nmat it was 99.98 percentile which makes me eligible for nursee monjee , in snap i secured calls for schmrd, siib etc, in XAT i have calls for both programs of XLRI BM and HRM with near 99 percentile. Cmat results are not yet out. But for AIMat i have 99.56 . “

Interviewer 1,” thats impressive”
I said,”thanks”

Interviewer 2,” so you have left out Gate?”
I said,” it doesnot suit my tastes. May be someday i would do it too (smile)”

interviewer 3,” ok that would be all. It was nice talking to you. I think u are through with MFC interview too.So i think it will be all for the day for you. ”
I said,” ok thanks mam”

RESULT : CONVERT IN BOTH MFC AND MBE

Preparatory phase

There were days in which i won,
there were days when fortune swung,
it was a song that i loved and sung,
i am just a traveller like xuanzang.

TOP 30 MBA COLLEGES OF INDIA RANKINGS 2012

As per public opinion as an aspirant of mba college i believe that most ranking agencies often take money to publish their rankings or providing unnecessary and inappropriate weightage to some colleges just to help them secure more students based on this inaccurate or flawed rankings. There are overwhelming number of rankings available today and almost all except pagulguy ranking seems inappropriate by most aspirants. Having been through the rigors once i lay down from an aspirant perspective the best 30 colleges of india . This is as of 2012 and is based on  mostly pagul guy and having had the interview experience of most of the 30 colleges in india with a cat percentile of 99.12 and snap score of 88.5 (qualified in general category for scmhrd and all other colleges in snap 2011) and nmat 2011 percentile of 99.98 and xat percentile of 98 and calls from xlri and ximb for all programs , Cmat percentile of 99.9 and IBPS score of 176 and MAT percentile of 99.56 ,IBSAT qualification for ICFAI hydrabad, qualified in TISS too. Along with gmat score of 700 and having had cracked most of the interviews and being a general category student . I lay down my rankings from experience of being their and the knowledge accumulated from fellow participants and aspirants. This is mostly by combining all of the rankings available today which have included industry exposure, placements, faculty ,student feedback.

UNION BANK OF INDIA PI experience

UNION BANK OF INDIA PI experience

=========================================UDDALAK BANERJEE

Union Bank of india interview was held on 24th feb  2012. It was the first bank to come with vacancy under IBPS 2011 which was also the first ever IBPS to take place in the country india  whose objective was to select employees for 19 public sector banks of india. The exam was taken by 10 lakh candidates for the PO exam and had 1 lakh candidates emerging eligible for recruitment  in various banks as employees. As usual General Category cutoff went soring high for Union Bank which picked the top 3000 students for interview under general category and similarly with 1:3 ratio for other categories too. The general cutoff went at 166 marks out of 225 after meeting the constraints like 25 marks and above in all of the 5 sections. My score was 176 and hence i was relatively confident because that was around 1000 rank out of 10 lakh candidates which is nearly 99.9 percentile. With high weightage in banks to the written score it gave me a huge chance.IT was because of this only that i secured calls from all 19 banks. The same model was later followed by other banks too namely bank of india, punjab national bank, bank of baroda, allahabad bank and so on.As a result same people got mutliple calls even after conversion. Anyways coming back to the union bank recruitment process. IT was conducted in the regional office of union bank of india kolkata. The interview time was 10:00 am in the morning. I went there on time and found that already there were 20 aspirants who are waiting there. I asked them for any update or if i missed anything. They asked me to go and get the entry form and said that it is based on the entry form submission they are calling others for interview. He said that there is no particular order to calling for interview. The one who comes first and fills the form first gets the first call. I went and filled the form and attached the xerox of all the marksheets and then submitted it. The interviews were taking place at a fast pace. I was called soon within about 40 minutes of submission of the form.

The interview panel had 3 members. All of them were middle aged. The person siting in the middle was the chief manager.

Interviewer 1,” Uddalak banerjee..it is special name.. have u wondered about the meaning of it?

i said,” yes i did . Actually it is from mahabharata when aruni was given this name. IT means rising light”

Interviewer 2,”Which system is better indian banking system or Irish banking system?”
I said ,” Indian banking system”

Interviewer 2,” but irish system far more profit making and famous?”
i said,” yes it is but fame is not the parameter for gauging goodness of a banking system . IT is its flexibility and reliability over time that determines the banking systems goodness.”

Interviewer 3,” what is kyc?”
I said,” know your customer. It is a form that is filled by the customer and kept with the bank so that a database is maintained on all transactions.”

Interviewer 1,” what id s do we take for kyc?”
I said,” pan id and address proof”

Interviewer 2,” what is difference between debit card and credit card?”
I said,”credit card has a credit limit. IT is like a loan that is taken. For debit card it is money that u have in the account that gets debitted.”

Interviewer 1,” what is the difference between interest rates of the two. which one is more?”
I said,” credit card should be more because u are taking the loan from the bank”

Interviewer 3.” you are an engineer from a National Insitute of Technology. Why banking?”
i said,” sir from my personal experience in it sector i have seen that inspite of wining 4 awards in 9 months there is no stability in the job in terms of job satisfaction and job security. In banking system there is stability there is option to switch near to your house because banks are present everywhere in all parts of the country. The job is also of fixed duration mostly from 10am to 7 pm. There are lots of added benefit like LFC ,trips with family and it leaves us with some time for the family too. In private sectors they dont do that too. That is one of the reasons that in IBPS exam u will see that of the 10 lakh people who sat the exam 90% are working engineers mostly from TCS ,INFY,WIPRO,CTS and so on.”

Interviewer 2,” hm but many people even after joining they leave the bank . You are a graduate from NIT and you can easily get a better job and make a far better leaving. As far as i know in all subsequent job switches people from a national Institute like NIT and IIT is always given a preference. You have a good profile too. “

I said,” sir my father and mother both have been employees in union bank of india for their entire life. I have been born and broughtup by the bank itself. My mother is in MG road branch and father in shaldamore branch. So all my life i have been seen banks and heard tons about them. I have never have had any grudge over the upbringing that they have provided me as employees of this esteemed branch. Besides as a bank union bank of india is a profit making bank and is fully computerised. I am a computer science engineer obviously can come handy in day to day operations of the bank

Interviewer 1,” what idea do you have of subprime rates and financial inclusion?”
i said,”as such government of india is trying hard to finance as many self help groups as possible to start their own business . The channelisation of funds  happens only through financial institutions like banks which have presence in the grass root. For growth to happen financial inclusion is necessary that is each person should have a bank account. primary interest of the bank lies in the fact that it provides a chance to increase its advance and returns through loan interest.  Even for savings account it gives a chance to  the bank to have more money available to invest in some other business and earn in returns.”

Interviewer 2 ,”what is the single biggest problem with the banks?”
i said,” as far as i have known from my father the biggest problem of the banks is NPA recovery. People take loans for business and then the business fails and they lose the money and even the mortgage land gets unlawfully sold without banks knowledge or guaranter dies  leading to huge loss to the bank. NPA recovery is hard but the single most important thing in banks at present.”

Interviewer 2, “ hm. But tell me one thing u could have opted for higher education before opting for banks.you could have been at a even higher position.”

I said,” sir the promotion system is there in the banks so if i feel that i need growth ,i can take  part in the written and pi tests held within the bank for promotion to higher posts.Higher education as in Gate is not that useful for the branch of computer science engineering and the returns assosiated with it is also not encouraging as i am not that interested into teaching profession. In software sector the types of job that are available are mostly support which is by essence very similar to the one that bank offers. So i think that it wont make much of  a add on to the existing skills to elevate my position or worktype in the existing industry.”

Interviewer 1,” hm..ok that would be all .you may leave now”

I said,”t hank you sir”

NIRMA university GD PI Experience mba admissions 2012-14

NIRMA university GD PI Experience mba admissions 2012-14

=====================================UDDALAK BANERJEE

NIrma university is one of the reputed universities of India which is known for its rural management programmes. It stands at 35 among 4000 + mba colleges in india asper current pagulguy ranking 2012 . IT has been persistently been there for  a long time now. WHen i applied to NIrma university i did so keeping in mind the high competition that occurs for the top 20 mba colleges in india and even with a high percentile there is no guarantee for admission because gd and pi along with profile has a big role to play there after. My nirma interview was held in kolkata at ho-chi- minh sarani on 18th march,2012.I was late for the gd pi .IT was supposed to start at 8:45 am and i reached at 9:00 am. That too i was not prepared for the process. Last day that is 17th march i had XLRI interview and from jamshedpur came to kolkata and the very next morning there was this interview. My body clock was just not working well . There was a written assignment going on at that time from 8:45 am . I was 15 minutes late already yet i went to toilet because it was urgent. So that took away another 10 minutes. After that i joined the group with the written assignment. It was an essay on “Communication skills are more important than technical skills to achieve success “.

IT was a topic i took would have taken some time to think but then that was not there. So i decided to write straightaway. I wrote about current IT sector comprising of most multinational service oriented companies who provide mostly communication oriented role in support services in which there is a call system which is mostly known as client call in which the client gets to speak with directly with the team leader and team members as to what they need to do and how the job is progressing and so on.Technical skills in a service oriented environment always takes a back seat.Besides if employment pattern is followed closely in employment exchanges BE s and BTECHs often outrun the ME s MTECH because a basic knowledge of computers is needed mostly and not indepth analysis to run such type projects. Thats why even mechanical and civil engineers in private colleges end up in Computer science core companies like Wipro,TCS ,CTS and so on.

The written assignment was soon followed by Interview. I was 9th  in the panel. It took some time for my number to come. I was talking to other aspirants to know as much as possible about the college so that i can bail out any question on the college like why Nirma? and What are advantages of mba at Nirma. I did not have much time to prepare for it so i just tried to accumulate as much knowledge as possible.

Soon my turn came. The panel had 3 members .One was a middle aged woman and the other two were old men.We were asked to wait infront of the door serial number wise.

Interviewer 1 ,” please come in and take ur seat.”
I said,” thank you sir”

Interviewer 2,”U-d-d-a-l-a-k Banerjee.hmm. you are a bengali?”
I said,”yes sir”

Interviewer 1,”your form is incomplete. You have not filled anything in the second part of the form”
I said,” Actually i was in the hurry .yesterday i had interview in XLRI jamshedpur. Yesterday night i came and then today morning i set off for here. And this kind of schedule is happenning for the last one month. I have applied to most colleges because the percentile itself doesnot guarantee any selection it is just an eligibility. And given the competition for seats i believed that it would be safer if i apply more. And hence in hurry i just missed out on that”

Interviewer 2,”But isn’t this very irresponsible?”
I said,” sorry mam .I just forgot about it. I filled the first side but i just forgot to fill the next side”

Interviewer 3,”you have 99.12 percentile . And u have applied to most colleges. So you must be having many calls. So where does nirma rank among them. Because practically speaking i feel that u have just come here for a timepass.”

I said,”Sir to be very true I dont do things for a timepass .I make mistakes which is human. But then as far as NIrma is concerned i feel it is one of the best colleges in rural management sector and it is at a happening place like gujrat and hence number of companies coming for recruitment is huge. And with an average package of 7 lakh around i dont think that i should even think twice before applying it. As for other colleges are concerned. Sir if i get xlri, iim, mdi ,ximb ,iit bombay then obviously i wont come. But then that is  a far off thing. AS of now it is in hand and a worthy college so I dont think that i should let it go.”

Interviewer 1,”hmm.. so you have any workex?”
I said,” yes i have workex of 10  months in birlasoft as of now.”

Interviewer 2,” you have not mentioned that in the form?”

i said,” no actually the breakup was 70 percent on Cat score and 20 percent on gd pi and 10 percent on acads. So as such there was no weightage given to workex. So i did not mention it.”

Interviewer2,” how confident are u to get through this interview?”

I said,”as per calculations from the 70% i should get atleast 69.5 and from the rest 10% in acads i should get 8. it makes 77.5 .from the rest 20% i believe that i should get in between 12-15 which makes a cumulative around 90 out of 100 which is a decent score to get qualification. But then this are all quantitative ways of analysing things. IT all depends on how you percieve me .”

Interviewer3,” why do you want to do mba?”
i said,” Having worked in birlasoft i have had a decent exposure to corporate. I believe that creating softwares or providing services are just a part of the whole thing. MBA is the whole thing .It deals with administration of the company ,taking judicial decisions and participating in a more active way in the day to day affairs of the company. It proves self actualisation to the person who not just enhances his aptitude but also  his attitude to meet the demands of a business.”

Interviewer 1,” any unfulfillments that u have in life..Because ur scores are all very good. I mean Nmat 99.98 and then cat 99.12 and then u have very good scores in snap ,xat ,ibsat ,mat, gmat everything.”

I said,” well i have qualified in aieee for nits with a the then percentile of 99.2 calculated at a base of 6 lakh candidates who took the test at that time. Now it is taken by around 13 lakh candidates. So i found some success at that time also getting into an NIT was a great experience and having studied with people from different social economical and cultural background was a great learning experience more so because all of them also performed admirably well in aieee to get into NIT fold. But yes still i could not do IIT . It remains  a thorn in the flesh. Hopefully if i make to xlri /mdi /iim then it would be highly rewarding and maybe in the long run this failure would heal .”

Interviewer 3,” so tell me finally if selected would u join NIRMA?”

I said,” well that again depends on results of other exams being favourable or not. But yes if i dont make it in mdi, xlri ,iim then i would definately like to come to NIRMA. Atleast it will leave me with an option .If i fail here then it wont be there.”

Interviewer 1,” ok fine. You may leave now. “
I said,” thanks and good day”
